Dindi

Here we are taking Dindi out for a spin. I'm really looking forward to the evolution of this piece for us. I've just begun to sing a portion of the lyrics in the original Portuguese. Many, many thanks to my Brazilian friends Raquel and Alex for sitting with me and coaxing the rich and complex sounds of their native language out of me! Believe me, they deserve accolades! They are not my first Brazilian friends. Nor are they the first to encourage me to sing in their beautiful language, but it has taken decades for me to attempt this in public. Now, that I've dipped my toe in these foreign waters, I'm emboldened to jump in and take a deeper dive. Beinjinos, Lisa

Brazilian Exports

Here's a little sample from a LIVE set of Brazilian tunes we played at The Performance Space last week. I am loving working on this repetoire, so tender, sweet and sad with beautiful melodies and gentle rhythms. The sounds coming from Jesse Vernier's guitar are an inspiration. We've got some  Portuguese  tunes in the pipeline, too.  Subtle, rich and romantic this is my first guitar/vocal duo endeavor. I hope you like this material on us. Jesse and I are looking to Samba our way into Summer offering private house concerts, gallery events and dinner music programs from LA to Santa Fe.

Don't Cry For Me Argentina

Any Evita fans out there? Here's a live recording of Don't Cry For Me Argentina with voice and guitar. I first saw Evita in San Francisco. I found the production to be extremely moving, stirring something deep inside of my heart. Eva Perone was not on my radar in any way, in fact I hadn't even heard of Evita. When the show began, I whispered to my Mother that it reminded me of Jesus Christ Super Star. She whispered back, "I think it's by the same guys." I shrugged ignorantly. As I sat next to my Mother in the audience, I found myself sobbing quietly there in the dark. The story of a girl who rose above poverty and obscurity transcending humble beginnings with sheer will and ambition struck a chord with me. Ill equipped to handle the vocal challenges of the score at the time, I didn't care. I couldn't help myself. Privately, I sang along with Elaine Page until I knew every breath on the London Cast album. It's so interesting to come back to

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by. I'm excited to announce a new musical collaboration! I've joined forces with classical guitarist Jesse Vernier to stage a unique new sound. Pulling from the classical tradition of performance and the insistant freedoms of American jazz, this new duo delivers music honed over decades of individual experience and refined under the Zia sun of Santa Fe.
